South Carolina offensive lineman with starting experience enters transfer portal, per report
South Carolina’s offensive line is one of the most experienced units in the SEC, but the group will reportedly lose some depth as a veteran is looking for a change of scenery.
South Carolina offensive lineman Jazston Turnetine, who made 7 starts last season, has entered the transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports. Turnetine was expected to be the backup right tackle coming out of spring practice.
Turnetine is a former JUCO transfer who joined the Gamecocks 2 years ago, and at times flashed as a key figure on the offensive line, particularly at the tackle positions.
After he joined the Gamecocks, Turnetine appeared to be in line to be the starting left tackle, but then fell out of shape.
“I go back to spring and those first 5 days coming off the offseason program,” coach Will Muschamp recounted at the time, per 247Sports, “I remember Jazston telling me, ‘I think I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in.’ In those 5 practices, he was extremely impressive, but then we had six months off.”

That’s good because we need an entirely new OL and depth any way. Good luck young man.
I’m thinking it’s more about the O-line coach than it is the players. Remember K.Harris lead the league in rushing in 2020 behind very solid run blocking from the O-line. Last season (2021) we had almost the exact same players on the line and an even better backfield but couldn’t run the ball consistently or at all in most games! The only major change for the O-line between 2020 and 2021 was the coach. I guess we will find out this season. I believe we have enough experience and talent to do very well or at least drastically improve. If we don’t I have to put it on the coach.
