Bru McCoy, Southern Cal transfer WR and former 5-star, commits to SEC program
Bru McCoy, a transfer wide receiver from Southern Cal, has committed to play in the SEC.
McCoy made the announcement on Instagram that he’s committed to Tennessee after he was a 5-star prospect in the 2019 recruiting cycle, caught 21 passes for 236 yards and 2 touchdowns in 6 games in 2020, but did not play in 2021. He was ranked the No. 2 prospect among all players in the transfer portal by 247Sports.
McCoy, who has 3 remaining seasons of eligibility, said he chose Tennessee because of the chance to make an immediate impact in coach Josh Heupel’s fast-paced, high-scoring offense.
“It’s an unbelievable staff,” McCoy told GoVols247 before publicly revealing his decision. “They care about their players. Someone like me, I think I will thrive here. This community, the campus — everything — the way people treat each other here, it fits the type of person I am. And then, on the field, obviously the scheme offensively fits the type of player I am, so it’s a wholesome — you know, everything’s clicking.”
McCoy’s move has been expected since March when reports out of Texas noted that he was in Tennessee’s student directory. McCoy began his career with the Longhorns before he transferred to play for the Trojans.
McCoy is from Santa Ana, California (Mater Dei), and was rated the No. 1 athlete in the class of 2019 and the No. 9 prospect overall, according to the 247Sports Composite.
Looks like former Texas 5-Star WR enrollee Bru McCoy has found his next home with another UT. No official announcement but McCoy is listed as a Tennessee Vol in their student directory. pic.twitter.com/cuDIF9cofc

Beautiful… Loving the momentum! Welcome to Rocky Top!
Y’all are going to be boasting about how you are going to beat Georgia now. I can already hear it. LOL
PS. Either way. Nice get!!!
Negan
Seek counseling…
Yes we are going to beat Georgia
In baseball maybe
Negan will be boasting about how his mom went a whole week without having to see an OB/GYN.
THE QUEEN FEMALE DOG IS BACK! YOUR BROTHER 2008 WAS LOOKING FOR YOU, HE SAID YA’LL ARE SUPPOSED TO PLAY A GAME OF HIDE THE SAUSAGE! LMAO, I BET THAT’S YOUR FAVORITE GAME TO PLAY WHEN YOUR MOTHER GETS HOME FROM THE CORNER SHE WORKS!
Go Big Orange!!!
I know he has been a bit of a head-case in the past, but there is no doubt he is a talented WR. I hope he has his stuff together and is ready to play some football.
I seem to remember him originally committing to USC then flipping to Texas and going back to USC. I’m not sure if I have the story right but I do remember it being a weird situation.
This is a great get. Jordan Addison would be another huge get. Apparently we are trying to get him at TN instead of USC according to Cooper Petagna. This guy torched us last year in the Pitt game. Number 1 power 5 receiver today who went into the portal today.
Number 1 power 5 receiver from 2021*
Jordan Addison is probably headed to USC! I don’t believe he wants to play against the SEC defense. Especially Georgia!!! But I have a answer for that. He could play for Georgia!!! LOL
PS. I DESPISE THE PORTAL AND NIL!!!!
Negan
THE QUEEN FEMALE DOG IS AT IT AGAIN! DON’T YOU AND YOUR BROTHER 2008 HAVE A DATE TO PLAY HIDE THE SAUSAGE? WHAT’S THE MATTER CHUMP, DID YOU BITE OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW?
WTF are you on about? Did I miss something?
Doesn’t concern you, take a hike!
McCoy has a lot of ability. Hopefully he has his head on straight now. He has a ton of talent and lots of upside. I wish him luck.
Tennessee has improved personnel on both sides of the ball. I hope they make even more noise this year
More noise, less mustard, I say…
They may need to move students to the upper deck. The fake injuries will continue and more teams may go the ole miss route of doing it every other play with how much better this offense may be. No condiments or golf equipment will be safe!
If the refs make calls that at least look fair, there would be a lot more mustard left in the market shelves.LOL
This is a huge piece to the 2022 offense that was lacking. With Tillman on one side and Bru on the other and a host of slot candidates this offense just gets more and more lethal. I would like to land one more outside threat and find at least one capable O lineman. Other than that we need as much defensive help as we can get.
Lets hope McCoy puts his troubles behind him. If he does he has a chance to be a first rounder when he jumps.
Has Kayvon Thibodeaux “It’s all about me” disease but an undeniable talent. We shall see.
If the refs make calls that at least look fair, there would be a lot more mustard left in the market shelves.LOL
Prima Donna will quit once he gets his feelings hurt in practice. I have seen this type of “athlete” too many times. “ME, ME , ME!”
Best of luck to him. He’s going to face better cornerbacks in the SEC than in the Pac-12.
Someone said “bit of a headcase.” Wow. Signed with USC then transferred to Texas, nothing but trouble there, transfers back to USC and is charged with domestic assault. Misses the entire year. Played in 6 games since 2019? “Eure spoke to a source who said his suspension could continue through a portion of the 2021 season “due to the serious nature of the allegations.” $50,000 bond for the incident, but as with 95% of star athletes, the charges somehow got dropped. And Vol fans are dancing in the aisles to get him. Tired of being further and further in Georgia’s rearview mirror??
Real question is why is this such a big deal NOW to the Vol fans here? This commitment has been in place for months. Finally, is any player that transfers to UT, no matter what their history, “a great or huge GET?”
Yet here you are commenting on this non-event….
@oskie Since this is a board designed for comments, it seems like a suitable place for a comment. Disagreement is good.
So why waste time commenting on something so allegedly irrelevant? Great observation you made btw-unraveling the esoteric for us.
@oskie It might be irrelevent to him/her, but still generate discussion. Much of what we discuss here is like a Seinfeld episode….. mundane discussing to fill space. Whether someone is right or wrong, what does it really matter? It’s the journey…. the discussion. I welcome your disagreement.
He’s going to face better cornerbacks in the SEC than in the Pac-12.. Thanks for that nugget of wisdom. In other news, water is wet.
It’s easy to forget that this is a kid who has been pursued all his life by coaches who were looking out for their own best interest. USC withheld information about Kliff Kingsbury possibly leaving while he recruited McCoy. Went out to Texas and basically predicted the future of Herman by choosing not to stay. In both cases he should have finished the season before making a change but he was justified in leaving. These guys have a small window of opportunity and the smart ones know it. Not finishing the seasons tarnished his reputation, costing him the benefit of the doubt when the girl situation came up. But the police investigated and dropped it quickly…the school did not, only because he was an athlete.
Really? It was a felony arrest with a 50k bond. It was dropped due to “insufficient evidence.” Translation: The girl refused to testify. You are probably right though, none of this was his fault. Wonder why Jimbo didn’t want him?
Somebody’s nervous
Do they convict people in Alabama using their arrest and bond as the primary evidence? Most states talk to witnesses and look at video footage.
Boondock is a vol troll. Every post on UT articles is just trolling. Pay him no mind.
AggieFH, not sure what your argument is. Being charged with felony assault means the police saw something significant. I served nearly a decade in law enforcement, but am sure that means nothing here. Remember, the school knew enough that it did not end with the girl not willing to testify.
“Somebody’s nervous” ?? Really? Think I would take Gibbs, Burton, Ricks, Steen and Harrell over a guy who has only seen the field 6 times since 2019 and on his 4th chance.
Boondock, Probable cause and proof beyond a reasonable doubt are two different legal standards. One for an arrest warrant. One for prosecution by the state. If you were a former cop, kind of mind boggling you don’t know this. But as an attorney, it doesn’t surprise me one bit. Police have been arresting people via “probable cause” for decades. Also, he was not charged for felony assault.
We will agree to disagree, you are not following what I am saying at all. You being a defense attorney is the most obvious fact of this conversation. What is mind boggling is that a lawyer would have time to hang out on SDS during the day and championing the causes of pampered athletes who get 4th and 5th chances.
Just Show Me.
Boondock I served nearly a decade in law enforcement Oh Lord here we go…
I used to be a cop is supposed to shut all of us up I guess. I could fill 2 notebooks with all of the bungled cases lost evidence false claims etc handled by “law enforcement.”
Who said I was a cop?
