RE: Offensive line, I think Joe overlooked what we have added, namely, Zac Yenser and Drake Jackson. I don’t see us taking a step back. I think we will be contending for the Joe Moore award again. They will certainly bring back Coach Schlar’s influence. His influence will be allowed to fade in its own time. By then we will be consistently one of the better O-lines around for some time to come, I think. I’m an optimist, I guess.
If he can beat out JJ, Trevin, and Ox for the MVP (and all the rest), I'm sure we'll be very glad to have him.
Great idea! Then we could expand the playoff to 64 teams and we would have football from July - February. The national championship could be on Valentine's day every year!
I watched that game again last night. Jutahn McClain looked pretty good, also.
Apparently, some of the NFL folks who review the tapes leading up to the draft saw something in Levis, while reviewing Wandale's tapes, that got a bunch of them excited about him. I'm not sure what they saw, but a lot of folks jumped on the bandwagon. I hope they are right.
Yes, that was his worst game, as well as the team's worst outing. Plus, your team played very well. Our guys always seem to have trouble with those cowbells ringing in their ears.
We also got Barrion Brown who was one of the top receivers in the 2022 recruiting class.
Yes. Tayvion Robinson from Virginia Tech. He’s mainly a slot receiver and he reminds me quite a bit of Wandale.
Thanks. I’m still shocked by the outcome. Our pitchers must be improving. Now go win the CWS Vols.
Quite a stunner. I was hoping we’d be able to get a win in this series. Hard to figure. Usually when we win a game it is because we score a lot of runs. Makes me feel better about this year’s team. Maybe our pitchers are improving.
I agree with the Will Levis assessment. Top 10 overall would be a ceiling he could achieve, but we can't just assume he'll get there. I think he probably will, but I wouldn't count on it at this point.
Agreed, and I sure am glad that he will be back.
If you beat Vandy by less than 5 touchdowns, that counts as 1/2 a loss.
I think Beau Allen was looking better than either Hogan (for the time being) and Sheron (a year behind). Hogan will probably look a lot better when he has had the time to switch from the Iowa system to Scangarello's system. Beau has had a year with Coen and is probably more familiar with the play book, which is probably similar to last year. In most of his relief appearances, Beau has managed to move the ball down the field pretty well, all things considered. I'm not worried about Ruffalo's kicking game. He was pretty consistent last year. The 52-yard FGA was affected by the wind, I think, and there was a high snap on the missed point after. I don't know if Poore was able to get the ball down correctly in time.
The tackles are something of a concern at present, but I think we will be OK there. The center and guard positions, I believe, should be very strong. I have a lot of confidence in Drake, and I think Yenser was an excellent hire. Can’t to see what we look like in week two this fall.
I think we will be a better team this year, in spite of the lost production. Some of our up and coming players have been pretty impressive. If we can get the CB position in good shape there shouldn’t any drop off from last year. IMHO.
My thoughts exactly. UofL should be good again in a year or two.
I believe that the offense will actually improve pretty significantly with Scangarello. Only slight alterations to the offensive schemes, as I understand it, and the coaches are changing their terminology rather than having all the players do it. From what I can gather, we may be slightly more run-oriented, will likely use a fullback and the tight ends will play more of a role.
But it sure was fun to watch him rip off some big gains last year.
Scangarello has been talking to him about his running. He may be somewhat more judicious next season. What I hear is that he will be more likely to slide when he has gained what he needs and will only go full steam beyond that when there is a critical need to get as far downfield as possible. Just reading between the lines of our coach's comments.
You probably wouldn't, based upon his performance against State last year. He looked quite a bit better against most other teams, especially later in the season.
It's ironic that UK beat North Carolina by 29, and Kansas by 18 this year, and then lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament to a 15 seed.
