Where did the SEC even begin to think that Arkansas and Mizzou was a rivalry? The two teams have played each other a mere 13 times since 1906 and 8 of those games in the SEC. Arkansas- Texas A&M is more likely the rivalry with 78 meetings since 1903 or AR v LSU 67 games since 1901 and the biggest trophy in all of college football. I like the 4 x pods mentioned here as AR, LSU, Ole Miss and Miss State make more sense. TX, TAMU, OK and Mizzou can relive their Big 12 days together and the other two pods make sense as well
Ole Miss looks more than the likely school for Arch manning as his father plus uncle Eli and grandfather Archie played there. However, Do the Mannings see Kiffen as a reliable steady head coach for the 3-4 years that he attends. Who will be the OC and QB coaches? This is not about winning college national championships as he is being groomed for the pros only. Alabama could win out here and LSU could certainly be in the running. Regretfully the Hogs won't be considered even though he could rest assured to be protected with a Pittman O line
Fuzzy, you say "how realistic is it to get past bama, lsu and atm"? Well Arkansas almost beat "Bama and was only down 7 points in a hard fought game in Tuscaloosa and Arkansas whooped TX A&M this past season. Hogs beat LSU in Death Valley and gave Texas a warm welcome to their SEC announcement. So in response to your question I'd say VERY REALISTIC. Surely now you know what actually happened last season you probably agree with me :-)
It makes no sense as his next move will be a HC at a good school. This year he had a great season with a new QB to boot. Arkansas will cover any pay increase that he gets offered elsewhere for a lateral move and frankly going to Miami will be a step down rather than lateral. Briles was only 1 touchdown behind Alabama this year, whooped both Texas teams and was just a 2 point play from not beating Ole Miss in Oxford. The entire state of Arkansas would love to see him stay until he moves upward as a head coach somewhere.
It would not surprise me if Briles finds a way to get Hornsby more involved in games by utilizing him elsewhere like WR as he has raw speed and an ability to make defensive players miss him. As for Fortin he may well be used at TE with his size. Either way we now have more in the QB room to push each other. Go Hogs
woo pig sooie ........ a champion returns
This is amazing and getting out of hand for so many schools. I believe that the NIL payments has everything to do with this as many of these players are simply looking for an early pay day. When you get team/schools like TX A&M who set up what amounts to a rule abusive system hiding behind NIL and is openly paying players then kids are going to put themselves up for the highest bidder. College football is going to hades in a hand basket
I am an Arkansas razorback fan and proud of our team and coaches in what we have achieved over the past two seasons and especially for drubbing Penn State in the Outback Bowl. I am amazed that the AP have included Joe Foucha in this "team". This was the only game this season that Foucha actually shined but to be honest he still was by far outshone by Bumper Pool. WPS
Probably Tre Williams will get into trouble with Coach Pittman and Coach Odom and he's been in trouble with the latter previously when at Mizzou. Arkansas football hierarchy typically would and likely will suspend him for the Outback Bowl at least but we're Arkansas and things like this matter. However, I do recall when Thee Ohio State had 5 players who got into trouble and Coach Sweater Vest Tressel made sure that they were all available to play against Arkansas in the 2011 Sugar Bowl and they got the 31-26 win. We've see this happening often with many other teams when their players get into trouble. DWI is serious and I am sure that the court will punish him. Williams is a pivotal asset for the Hogs defense and I hope that we have a backup DE to cover the slot.
And right in timely fashion someone leaks or creates a story that LSU was going to offer obscene money for Jimbo. So freaking what? This is not news! What is news is that Kelly is now at LSU and he has an uphill battle to even look like he's worth the money.
Like any other major program currently involved in the coaching carousel, LSU wanted to secure their guy as soon as possible, and they did just that with Brian Kelly. However, I feel that the players at Notre Dame got the short end of the stick as they are a good possibility to get into the final 4 playoff mix depending on the outcome of some conference championship games. To do this without the coach that got them there is unfair to them so maybe LSU and Kelly could have done a better job of the hiring. And yes I realize that Kelly needs to get on to the recruiting road for LSU ASAP. What he did to his ND players is not a good conversation opener as he recruits for the Bayou tigers. Big money for Kelly coming up and that will likely put him on the top of the list for college coaches salaries. I have zero respect for the man.
Oklahoma needed a deep threat receiver so instead of developing one they simply reached out to Mike Woods. He just stated that. So the Transfer Portal has made it easier for coaches to poach who they want from other teams now. To this add the NIL money which can come from a booster and the "poach" is complete. College football is now semi-professional and the transfer portal is making it easier for schools to essentially buy a team and we the taxpayers are paying for the education for the majority of these high schoolers who all of a sudden are paid football stars. Why not contract them to stay at the same school for 4 years and get a degree in football or whatever sport that they choose?
What's the problem? He broke his left arm but he throws with his right arm. He'll be back under center in no time and certainly before the season starts.
Let's start with the obvious.....does Ewers have the passing grades to be able to enroll in college or does that not matter these days?
I have no idea of what DJ has been doing of late but this would be a great fit for both DJ and the Hogs. Why not? He was the 2010 John Mackey award winner for starters and that means he was the best tight end in college football that year. He has NFL experience and has been around plenty of coaches so likely to have picked up on some coaching skill there. But best of all what an exciting man to have around our team and exude confidence in our TEs and O-line!!!! Go Hogs Woo Pig Sooie and Yessir - hire DJ Williams
I agree Liamk. The best options are Georgia Tech and Memphis. First of all GA Tech was a founding member of the SEC and would make a great homecoming. GA Bulldogs won't like that much but that's life just as Arkansas didn't like MO coming into the SEC and then losing our annual game slot with LSU to the Aggies. As I said that's life. The other team that makes a lot of sense is Memphis. However, there needs to be a realignment and that means MO goes west and Auburn heads East. This would make for better competition and we all know it. Other teams to consider are Miami who would be a better fit for the SEC than FSU as others wish. A NC team would be ideal and NC State or Wake Forest would be the most likely but pulling an NC team would be hard.
Fayetteville Arkansas is definitely a "southern" city. Just go there, talk to the people and especially the women and you will hear that southern charm immediately. And then if you want to get picky about who's "southern" then learn about the blood shed at Pea Ridge (in Leetown and Bentonville, AR). All Arkansans very much consider themselves as "southern". It truly is Missouri that does not fit the Southern or southeastern mold and I believe was a huge mistake to bring them into the SEC.
what is still overlooked is how the Auburn player clearly and intentionally holds an Arkansas player from retrieving the ball .... I need to review again to name the players. This should have been picked up in the replay booth as well as the OL from AU clearly thought that the ball was loose and the game was still in play thus holding the AR player back from retrieving it. Either way we got hosed again and AU sneaks away with their tail between their legs with a W*. It was a well fought game in bad conditions - go hogs - beat Ole Miss
On current form, Auburn is a winnable game for us this week.
Fisher will not last long in Aggieland
if you had watched AR v GA you saw a strong AR defense that eventually ran out of breath and they then improved to shut down the air raid offense of MS State. That was no fluke. Looking forward the signs are that AR will continue to improve and I suppose we will see on Saturday when the have Auburn @ home. That is a winnable game for Arkansas on current form for both teams and Odom knows what Gus and Chad Morris will throw at them. Hogs will work hard to show Morris how they have improved
Laura has it right. The Hogs can only go up and with these talented and dedicated coaches they will surprise many who might look past them
The Razorbacks gave LSU a better game at your Death Valley than any other team last year yet not really reflected on the scoreboard that evening. I was there and many LSU alum agreed
Well look at it this way. If the SEC does go it alone there will be some fine football played and watched by the fans albeit possibly just from our living rooms. With no cupcake teams from other leagues to play these games would be great to watch, if not better, and also show the SEC commissioner that we should drop 2 of the 4 out of conference games off our schedules. Woo Pig Sooie.....Go Hogs.
get a special teams coach who can recruit us an Aussie punter
Replace Chavis with Charlie Strong would be the best news to come to Arkansas fans for the holidays
The Borderline Battle Rivalry or whatever you want to call it is a BS rivalry put together by the SEC and is not seen by Arkansans as a real rivalry at all. Arkansas has played LSU on the last game of the season for years but TX A&M wanted that game when they entered the league and the SEC bowed to them. Even the South Carolina annual game was a rivalry of sorts as we were sister teams that entered the SEC together. Aggies should be playing Mizzou ........ not us.
Jerry Jones may be an alum and he did put up $millions for part of the new football center and, he hasn't put in a decent coach at Dallas Cowboys of late.
Why have a shoe for Tennessee and not Arkansas? Of Collegiate Licensed product sales Arkansas outsells Tennessee and many other major schools. Razorbacks are steady number 4 in the SEC and consistently in the top 15 of collegiate product sales in the nation. Yes that'll surprise a lot of people but it is what it is. Little podunk Arkansas eh? Maybe Nike needs to look outside of school size for potential sales here.
